Dale Edward Swanner, age 62, of Iron City, GA passed away Tuesday afternoon, March 2, 2022 at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Swanner was born in Donalsonville, GA on April 3, 1959 to Edward Colon Swanner and Barbara Moulton Swanner. He was a graduate of Seminole County High School. Mr. Swanner started working in law enforcement in the 70’s, went to the Police Academy in Albany, GA in 1978 and worked with the Donalsonville Police Department until 1986 when he resigned and went to work with the Seminole County Sheriff's Office as a road deputy. He eventually worked his way up to Investigations, then as Chief Investigator and upon his passing his title was Chief Deputy. He served as Sheriff of Seminole County from 2008-2009. He was an instructor since 2012 and taught many in-service training courses for the surrounding counties, including the use of the taser (certification and recertification). Chief Deputy Swanner was a mentor to many at the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 30 years, Pam Hall Swanner; his children, Paige Brookins (Bob), Christy Spooner, Jamie Ingram (Lee), and Jeffrey Swanner (Mindy Powell); his grandchildren, Cody Spooner, Katie and Thomas Brookins, Devin and Addie Hamilton, Gunner and Maeson Powell, and Bryson Chance. Mr. Swanner was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Moulton Swanner Skillen; his father, Edward Colon Swanner; his mother-in-law, Jean Hall; his father-in-law, Edward Hall; his grandparents, James Colon and Deliah G. Swanner.
We regret to announce the passing of Mr. Frankie Dale Lawson, Sr., age 50, of Jakin, GA who passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, AL.
Mr. Lawson was born in Andalusia, AL on July 20, 1959 to Nan Mullen Lawson and the late Louie Frank Lawson. He was a member of Oakview Church of God and worked in law enforcement for 18 years with City of Donalsonville and 13 years with Seminole County Sheriff’s Department in Donalsonville, GA.
He is survived by his wife, Becky M. Lawson of Jakin, GA; his mother, Nan Lawson of Iron City, GA; four sons, Staff Sgt. Frankie Dale Lawson, Jr. of Ft. Hood, TX; Jeffery Lawson and his financee' Shyleen Leiske of Iron City, GA; Daniel Ellis and Jacob Ellis both of Jakin, GA; one daughter, Laura Nantz of Iron City, GA; two brothers, Scott Lawson and his wife Jennifer of Colquitt, GA; Luke Lawson and his wife, Sandra of Iron City, GA; mother-in-law; Mary Montgomery of Jakin, GA. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; Dakota Leiske, Montana Leike, Jasmine Nantz, Cassidy Leiske, Tara Nantz, Landon Lawson, Jaden Lawson and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Louie Frank Lawson and a sister Patricia Richardson. Active casketbearers will be Alan Kimbrel, Will Pritchard, Terry Mullen, Nicky Richardson, Andy Richardson, Randall Earnest, William Yates and Freddie Montgomery.
Honorary casketbearers will be Law Enforcement Agencies from Seminole County, GA.
We regret to announce the passing of Mr. Jerry Godby, age 67, of Donalsonville, GA who passed away Friday, May 21, 2010 at his residence.
Mr. Godby was born in Seminole County on September 26, 1942 to the late Archie and Louise Spooner Godby. He graduated from Seminole County High School in 1960. Mr. Godby worked with the Atlanta Police Department before serving in the United States Army for two years. During the time he served in the Army, he was a member of the Honor Guard. Sheriff Godby, as everyone still affectionately calls him even though he retired in December of 2008, ran for the office of Seminole County Sheriff in 1976. After winning this election, he took office in January of 1977 and remained as Sheriff until his retirement in 2008. Mr. Godby was an active member of Donalsonville First Baptist Church where he was a member of the choir and served as a Deacon. He was also a member of the Georgia Sheriffs’ Association where he had served as Regional Vice-President from 1999-2005 and was a retired Sgt. at Arms. Mr. Godby was also an active member of the Donalsonville Lions Club of which he was currently serving as President.
Mr. Godby leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 45 years, Linda Godby of Donalsonville, GA; a brother, Lewis Godby and his wife Brenda of Donalsonville, GA; three sisters, Peggy Bankston and her husband Bob, Sylvia James and her husband Marlon both of Donalsonville, GA, and Janice Mann and her husband Roger of Byhalia, MS; as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Louise Spooner Godby; sister, Wanda Gail Godby; and brother, Joseph Carl Godby.
Active casketbearers will be Tony Godby, Paul Minshew, Todd Hornsby, Blake Hicks, Blayne O’Hearn, Michael Ready, Bradley Grantham, Johnny McMullen, and Danny Cosby.
Honorary casketbearers will be the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies from around the state, as well as members of the Donalsonville Lions Club.
