What is a School Resource Officer (S.R.O.)?
A School Resource Officer (S.R.O.) is a law enforcement officer who is assigned to work in schools to enhance safety, prevent crime, and foster positive relationships between law enforcement and students. S.R.O.s typically have three main roles:
The overall goal of Captain Jeffery Lawson and K-9 Magic as the Seminole County S.R.O. is to create a safer, more secure school environment while promoting positive interactions between youth and law enforcement.
Captain Jeffery Lawson has been with the Seminole County Middle/High School as the S.R.O. since December of 2016. He started his career in law enforcement in 2007 with the Seminole County Sheriff's Office.
K-9 Magic is a six year old German Shepherd that came from Czech Republic. K-9 Magic is a dual-purpose working dog trained in detecting the presence of narcotics and tracking.
K-9 Magic was acquired in 2019 from the Dooly County Sheriff’s Office with Captain Jeffery Lawson as his handler.
"As the School Resource Officer, my top priority is ensuring a safe and secure environment for all students and staff. I'm here, monitoring our school activity, so students can focus on learning and growing, and parents can have a peace of mind that I am doing everything in my power to keep these students safe. If you ever need anything, don't hesitate to reach out—I'm here to help!"

Captain Jeffery Lawson, S.R.O., monitors school cameras for the Elementary and Middle/High School. Thanks to the new security updates, these cameras are able to pick up on triggering key words which sends alerts to him and the staff with an alert location. With this alert, they are able to easily locate students or any persons on the premsis that triggered the alert.
School bathrooms are equipped with Vape Detectors.
Vape detectors are highly sensitive devices that can detect the presence of vaping aerosols and smoke in the air. Unlike traditional smoke detectors, they are designed to pick up on the chemicals and particles specific to vaping products. When a detector senses vaping activity, it immediately sends an alert to school staff or the School Resource Officer, allowing for a quick response to the situation.
